Tragedy struck at the Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp when head Coach Andy Reid’s eldest son was found dead Sunday morning at a Lehigh University dorm room.

Garret Reid, 29, struggled with drug abuse in the past, although the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Edward Shupp, the police chief at Lehigh University, told local media that Garret Reid was already dead when officers responded to a 911 call.

Police said that the death does not appear suspicious, but a full investigation is underway.

Garret Reid’s history of drugs landed him in prison in 2007 when he admitted to using heroin after a high-speed car crash that injured another driver.

“I enjoyed it,” Garret reportedly testified in the case. “I liked being a drug dealer,” referring to being the “rich kid” in the “hood” where everyone knew who he was.

But he also told the judge: “I don’t want to die doing drugs. I don’t want to be that kid who was the son of the head coach of the Eagles, who was spoiled on drugs and OD’d and just faded into oblivion.”

Andy’s younger son, Britt Reid, has also had his share of struggles. He was arrested after for a road-rage encounter with weapons and drugs in his vehicle on the same day that his older brother was nabbed.

Andy Reid has taken a leave of absence. Services will be held for Garret on Tuesday at Broomall, Penn.
