New and unwrapped toys and gift cards are welcome
There is nothing lovelier than seeing a child’s eyes light up after opening up a gift wrapped holiday toy. Here in Oyster Bay, Carol and Randy Daub are continuing the tradition of making sure all children will have that experience despite what the family financial circumstances are at this time. As the chairs of the 2012 Holiday Toy Drive. Ms. Daub said, “We are gearing up to provide gifts/toys for a large number of children (ages birth – 14) that have been identified as children ‘in need’. We offer assistance only to families living in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich community. Let us not forget those less fortunate than ourselves. With your generous support, this tradition will continue.”
The annual Toy Drive operates under IHNC (the Interreligious Human Needs Council) — CSAC (the Community Social Action Committee) orchestrates the annual food drive. Families and individuals receive food assistance for both Thanksgiving and the holiday season through the two major programs run under IHNC.
“Randy and I agreed to co-chair both programs about 12 years ago when Eve Bernstein (food drive) and Joe Ferraro (toy drive), each members of IHNC, stepped down.
“Rosemary Colvin and Joe worked together on the toy drive for many years. They used the Oyster Bay High School cafeteria as the drop-off site,” she said.
Please bring all toy donations, they must be new and unwrapped and deliver them to: the First Presbyterian Church, 60 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, between Monday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. For information call 922-5477.
FYI: The Oyster Bay High School and the Vernon School are also holding toy drives now through Friday, Dec. 14. Donations can be new unwrapped toys or gift cards. The toys that are collected will be used to help out families in the Oyster Bay community.
