For the past several years, the Committee for the Beautification of East Norwich (CBOEN) has honored a local resident at their annual tree lighting. This year it was held on Sunday, Dec. 2. President Jack Scheich announced that they were honoring longtime board member Paul Moreno for his years of service, before he moved out East a few months ago.
Mr. Scheich also announced that Jacki Gutman to going to pick up the slack, where the late Bernice Sachs left off and is putting up the menorah this year. It will take place on Dec. 8 with some details still to be arranged as we go to press.
He said it is not a CBOEN project but that he encouraged her to get the menorah lighting up and running again. “I think it’s a nice thing for the Jewish community,” he added.
We agree. It was always a lovely event and we have missed it, since Ms. Sachs has passed away. She was a wonderful firebrand in the community, and liked to make things happen.
We need everyone to make a great community.
