Old OB In Photographs
Raynham Hall Museum exhibit now through December features rare photographs of Oyster Bay from their collection. The photos are street scenes from 1927, 1958, and 1969 and the show includes photos of what the streetscapes look today. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. (Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The museum is at 20 West Main Street, OB. For information call 516- 922-6808.
Unframed At OBHS
The Oyster Bay Historical Society exhibit, “Unframed” features small unframed works: portrait, still life and landscape sketches that show the artist’s process of observing reality and problem solving on canvas. Classically trained artists Kristin Künc and Rob Zeller join in a visual dialog that has been going on between artists and subject for centuries. Dancing In The Street
Oyster Bay Main Street Association presents “Dancing in the Street,” on July 26 in Oyster Bay for dancers of all ages, skills, and styles from 7 to 9 p.m. Sponsored by BMW of Oyster Bay they will bring their newest model cars for viewing on Audrey Avenue around the Bandstand. Bring a chair if desired. Mark James assisted by Karen Lupo will be teaching on July 26. Enjoy dances from Salsa to Hustle, with some Sinatra, Pop, and Swing thrown in. Invasive Species Pull
The North Shore Land Alliance is asking for volunteers to come out and “pull” for the environment. The dreaded mile-a-minute invasive vine grows up to six inches in a day and is outcompeting native vegetation. Volunteers are needed. Please at 9:30 a.m., on Sunday July 28. The Spice is Right
Get acquainted with herbs and herb gardening with Michael Goudket, on July 28 at both 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, in Oyster Bay. There will be herbs to crush and sniff, and participants will take home a nifty fact sheet. The program is free to all. In partnership with the Oyster Bay Historical Society, the Teaching Studios of Art will be offering a summer workshop for artistic youth. Summer Camp: the Children’s Art Workshop is a 4-day workshop for students ages 8 to13 with instructor Julianne Smith. Classes are Monday and Tuesday, July 29-30. Sail the Sound for Deafness
The Mill Neck Family and co-hosts Oakcliff Sailing, The WaterFront Center, and other Oyster Bay groups, support the Sail the Sound for Deafness. Sailors are welcome to participate in the race with their own yachts too. A post-race cocktail party takes place at the Mill Neck Manor House (fee). This magnificent Tudor Revival mansion, overlooking the bay, is truly a Gold Coast treasure and a perfect site for an after-party. Belle Voci Concert
Founded and directed by Jennifer Scott Miceli Ph.D., Belle Voci will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 4 p.m. on August 4 at Christ Church . This intergenerational Women’s Choir performs annually to raise funds for cancer prevention and cure. Proceeds from concert ticket sales are donated to the American Cancer Society. Teaching Studios 3nd Annual Plein Air Competition will be held at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, on August 9 and 10. Thirty-five selected artists will compete for over $2000 in prizes donated by Jerry’s Artarama, as well as a $1000 grand prize awarded by the Teaching Studios. Poetry in Motion
Dr. Linda Opyr, Nassau County Poet Laureate 2011-13, will lead a poetry workshop on the grounds of Sagamore Hill National Historic Site on Aug. 11 at both 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants should bring a pen and notebook, and wear comfortable shoes and clothing. The workshop is open to individuals 12 years of age and older. No prior experience is necessary! Participants should meet at the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard.
