Tina Diamond’s energetic advocacy for schools will be missed
Recognizing her accomplishments and selfless work for the benefit of Farmingdale youth, Mayor Ralph Ekstrand and the Village Board of Trustees honored longtime resident and education activist Tina Diamond at Tuesday’s meeting.
Diamond, who announced her retirement this past June, served on the village Board of Education for 13 years. She was presented with a certificate of merit by Ekstrand, who praised the educator for her dedication.
“Tina has been a community activist for many years,” he said. “We just wanted to thank her for everything that she has done during her many years of service.”
Ekstrand highlighted a few of Diamond’s many accomplishments: She is largely responsible for the district’s new state-of-the-art kitchen facility, the formation of the Tech-Honor Society, and the pay-as-you-go Driver’s Ed course installed after funding was pulled. She was instrumental in creating the Farmingdale Summit, a crucial part of the communication between the PTA and the Farmingdale community; and, most importantly, was a constant and fearless lobbyist for more tax dollars through both the Farmingdale School Board and Action Committee.
