Tilles Center Exhibits

Now through to Oct. 15, Long Island Fringe Festival brings their annual art exhibit to Tilles Center Patrons Lounge at C.W. Post LIU campus. The theme of the exhibit is the art of volunteering. It focuses on the artist’s passion, whatever it may be; the artist’s dreams and desirers for a better future; and the hope for a loving planet. Also on view is the Art Under Glass area of Tilles Center is Sea Change, an underwater installation by Sally Shore and Barbara Karyo in the Atrium at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts.

Music at the Mansion

Planting Fields is offering a new concert series on Oct. 11, Music at the Mansion. Hear Matt Marshak & Band at 6 p.m. at Coe Hall Mansion. Cost: $20 non-member / free for members / no parking fee. Matt Marshak taps into the wonderful diversity of music in the album Colors of Me, shading his classic and fluid style with jazz, blues, rock, pop and even down-home boogie. Mill Neck Apple Festival

The annual Mill Neck Apple Festival, 40 Frost Mill Road, Mill Neck takes place on Oct. 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This year’s Festival promises to be better than ever, with the return of ripe apples, handmade country crafts, seasonable produce, grilled bratwurst, children’s activities and many more activities throughout the weekend.  go to www.millneck.org for more information.

Preserving Family Scrapbooks

The Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Archivist/Librarian Nicole Menchise will discuss best practices for preserving fragile family scrapbooks during the Society’s Preservation Workshop on, Oct. 15 [originally scheduled for Oct. 8] from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Koenig Research Center, 20 Summit Street. Free to members of the OBHS (with special membership opportunities to those in the 11771 zip code), $15 for non-members. Bring a scrapbook with them to discuss their individual challenges. Weekend of October 19 and 20

Oyster Festival Weekend

The 30th Oyster Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20 in the hamlet and waterfront of Oyster Bay. Audrey Avenue to TR Park. It is a fun family festival, with something for everyone. Tall Ships, a petting zoo, live music, delicious food, carnival rides, arts and crafts, antiques, interactive exhibits, harbor cruises, and more! The Oyster Festival is an alcohol free event.

Fireworks by Grucci: The Oyster Festival will celebrate its 30 years of the annual family friendly event with Fireworks by Grucci along with a musical performance by Robbie Rosen, of American Idol fame. The festival vendors and arts and crafts vendors will be open until 7 p.m., when the fireworks will take off. Buses will be available to take visitors to parking lot destinations through 7:30 p.m.

Oyster Festival Sunday

The Oyster Festival continues on Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. Raffle Winners: the car raffle winner will be announced at the close of the festival on Sunday, Oct. 20, at around 6 p.m.

Lecture at Bailey’s

 The Locust Valley Library presents an evening with Marc Wortman at Bailey Arboretum on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. He is the author of The Millionaires’ Unit, the historic tale of a group of young Yalies who started the first US Naval Air Reserve Unit in 1916 on Peacock Point, Lattingtown. The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys & Girls Club will hold their annual gala fundraising party at Oheka on Thursday, Oct. 24. “The galas have been held for several years at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove, and we decided it was time to do something new,” said Sharon Sliva, executive director. Pfoure Pounds Sterling Opens

Pfoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibition organized by the Oyster Bay Historical Society in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay and other lenders opens Oct. 25 at the OBHS’s Angela Koenig Research and Collection Center. The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through Jan. 19, 2014. For more information please call 922-5032.
