The next board of trustees meeting will be taking place in the boardroom at village hall. Start time is 8 p.m.
I Do! I Do!
Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor a free staging of the musical concert I Do! I Do! on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The story revolves around two soul mates navigating the perils of life and is set to the strains of a tuneful score. It will be approximately 90 minutes with an intermission. AARP Driver Safety Program
Registration begins in person Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the reference desk of the Garden City Public Library for the AARP 55 Alive Defensive Driving Course. The course will be given 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is limited to Garden City Library cardholders aged 50 and older and must be done in person with photo identification, proof of age (preferably a driver’s license), along with the AARP membership card. A check in payment of $17 for AARP members and $19 for nonmembers for course materials must be made at the time of registration. Cash will not be accepted.

Andy Club Halloween Party
Attention all superheroes, princesses, goblins, fairy godmothers and ghosts: Garden City High School’s Andy Club will be holding its 6th Annual Halloween Party in the high school gymnasium on Oct. 30 from 4-6 p.m. for children in grades prekindergarten through fifth grade. There will be lots of games, prizes, and treats to be had for children accompanied by a parent. Admission is a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds going to The Cancer Center at Winthrop Hospital.

Supermarket Fun Night
This annual event will be hed at the Stewart Manor School gymnasium starting at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. The $5 donation includes admission, two boards, chance at a door prize, coffee and dessert. No one under the age of 18 will be admitted.

Book Sale
A bargain book sale will be held on from 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library located at the corner of 60 Seventh St. and Hilton Ave. in Garden City. Come early for the best selection of hard and soft cover books. Just in time for the holidays will be great gift books and beautiful Christmas books as well as fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor this sale with all proceeds to benefit the library. Book Discussion
Two of Adriana Trigiani’s Big Stone Gap novels, Big Stone Gap and Big Cherry Holler will be the selections for The Friends of The Garden City Public Library book discussion to be held on at 10 a.m. Gloria Weinrich will moderate this book discussion that will take place in the library’s small meeting room on the Lower Level and is limited to 20 participants. No registration is necessary. Copies of the book are available at the reference desk in the library. Ave Maria Mulligan, a 35-year-old self-proclaimed spinster who lives in the small town Big Stone Gap, discovers a skeleton in her family’s formerly tidy closet that completely unravels her quiet, conventional life. In Big Stone Gap, Ave Maria is suddenly fielding marriage proposals and planning the trip of a lifetime to Italy. In Big Cherry Holler, her story continues eight years later when her marriage is at a crossroads and she is faced with the decision of a lifetime. Adriana Trigiani’s novels are full of humor, romance, wisdom, and drama.

The Waldorf Choral Society’s 40th Anniversary concert will feature soloists, chorus and orchestra along with George V. Rose conducting his final performance before retiring. Pick Those Pumpkins
Daily through Halloween, Oct. 31, a field of orange will cover the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau (UUCCN) at the corner of Nassau Boulevard and Stewart Avenue when pumpkins from a New Mexico Navajo reservation are delivered. The sale is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Homemade baked goods will also be available for purchase. Close to 6,000 pumpkins in various shapes and sizes as well as some variety pumpkins, gourds, and decorative corn are expected. Pumpkins grown in a dry climate tend to last longer than those grown in eastern United States. You are welcome to come to take pictures, wander through the pumpkin patch and purchase a pumpkin if you wish. Admission is free. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help unload pumpkins from the truck is welcome and appreciated, please come by on Oct. 19 between 9 and 11 a.m. This is a perfect time for teens to earn volunteer credits. Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. There is ample parking and the shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum, an original 1872 A.T.Stewart era Apostle Victorian structure.

Monthly Cancer Support Group
Franklin Hospital’s cancer support group meets in the former coffee shop at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream. The group regularly meets the first Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support.
