Two Seniors Win Prestigious County Awards

There is an expression in athletics called “being in the zone” which means that the athlete is physically and mentally focused and able to perform at the height of their abilities. This year the Nassau Zone Outstanding Physical Education Award for outstanding leadership, achievement and citizenship went to two Oyster Bay High School athletes, Berkeley Golon and Caroline Kelly. The Nassau Zone Award recipients exemplify and demonstrate an understanding of the New York State Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education by exhibiting a physically active lifestyle, both during and outside of school. Golon and Kelly demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior, including good sportsmanship, character, civility, and citizenship. The award winners also demonstrate leadership, are a positive influence on their peers, exhibit and value a healthy lifestyle and lifelong learning. Nassau Zone Awards are given to students who show exceptional achievement in physical education class and achieve a high level of fitness on an approved fitness test.
