Fifth-grade students from Center Street Elementary School in Williston Park, under the direction of teachers Madeleine Maier and MaryEllen Guarini, performed Harmony High at the Herrick Community Center for the senior citizens in the district on Feb. 6.
The students had been practicing for the last five months, learning songs and dance routines. They learned skills that allowed them to overcome shyness and build self-confidence by playing a variety of characters on stage. The theme of the show, “We
all try to get along because life is a beautiful song,” teaches great lessons about friendship and acceptance of differences. Students worked before and after school and during lunch recess to perfect their singing and dancing.
The visit to the senior citizens was a reminder of the special link students have with the community. Later the students went into the audience to talk to attendees.
