A mother and her son have been arrested for a Glen Cove home invasion in which a person was assaulted and threatened with a knife, police said.
Laura Purnell, 40, and her 21-year-old son, Jesse Thomas, both of Glen Cove, were each charged with burglary and attempted robbery.
Glen Cove city police said Purnell tried to rob the victim on Coles Street, but the victim fled to her home, where Thomas kicked in the front door and demanded money from those inside at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday.
Thomas attacked one victim and then menaced him with a large kitchen knife, police said. Purnell then entered the house, demanded money and went through the victim’s purse and desk drawers, police said.
Thomas was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and Purnell was additionally charged with possession of stolen property.
They will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
