Student volunteers hold clothing drive
Last month, Garden City High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) members donated coats and accessories from a drive they held to benefit Superstorm Sandy victims. Donations were provided to the Long Island Volunteer Center (LIVC)—a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the profile of volunteerism and increasing the number of volunteers—to make available to member agencies of the Long Term Recovery Group, established in the region to assist relief and recovery efforts.
LIVC management team members and Garden City residents, Tracy Murtagh, Diana O’Neill, and Anne Sprotte spoke with club members about the importance of volunteerism, how their contributions to help build community are necessary and appreciated, and brainstormed ideas for future collaborations.
