Northside Visits Brookville BOCES Outdoor Education Facility

Nicknamed the ‘Northside Navigators,’ fifth-grade students recently attended a field trip to the Brookville BOCES outdoor education facility, where they were involved in a series of hands-on group exercises designed to develop communication, cooperation, trust, problem-solving skills, and support each other as a team.

Each team was provided with an outdoor educator called a naturalist, who discussed with the students how to respond in a survival situation.

Students learned how to construct a make-shift shelter using debris, how to start a fire, scavenge for food and water, mark trails and give basic first aid. Other activities included: wall climbing, balancing, blindfolded rope swinging and more. All the students worked together to solve problems and cheer their teammates.
