George A. Jackson Elementary School’s fifth grade band recently participated in the NYSSMA Major Organizations Festival. The band traveled to Hofstra University, where they performed for two New York State music adjudicators. They were rated on all aspects of ensemble performance including precision, accuracy, intonation, tone, balance, rhythm, and musical interpretation. The band received a rating of “Gold”, which means they demonstrated “an outstanding level of technical and artistic skill.”
The Jackson Fifth Grade Band has 53 members, and is led by Band Director Wayne Schuster, Assistant Director John Russo, and student teacher Leigh Rynecki. The band performed “Yorktown March” by John Edmondson, “Spectrum” by Michael Story, and “Nocturnal Dances” by Robert W. Smith.
