Jericho Music Best In Nation

musicThe Jericho School District has been named a “Best Community in America for Music Education” for the 15th year in a row by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).

Only 376 districts in the United States received this honor in 2014.

“This is a significant honor and a tribute to the music staff of this district who work tirelessly to bring the highest quality of music education to our students — every day,” said Ken Pollitt, Jericho’s curriculum associate for performing and fine arts.

Now in its 15th year, the Best Communities for Music Education program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, and access to music instruction.

The NAMM Foundation, with the assistance of researchers at The Institute for Educational Research and Public Service of Lawrence, Kansas (an affiliate of the University of Kansas) evaluate participants on these factors.

Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and greater access to music education.

“Along with the efforts of the music staff, is the incredible commitment of our administration and Board of Education to support music and the arts in a comprehensive curriculum,” said Pollitt. “It is no accident that many of our brightest students include music in their busy schedules.”
