Students Excel At Writing

Oyster Bay High School students were recognized at the 2014 Long Island Press High School Journalism Awards Ceremony on May 28 at Hofstra University. Senior Aubri Juhasz was a winner in the category of “School Opinion Piece” for an article she wrote called “Minding Your P’s and Q’s.” Juhasz was twice honored as she won in the “Format Buster” category with “A Message from the Editor.”

Sophomore Joaquin Contreras won in the “Entertainment & Lifestyle” category with an article called “1994: “Film’s Greatest Year.”

Junior Alanna Petrone won in the “Comic Strip” category with a piece called “Solar Academy.”

Oyster Bay High School was well represented with five student winners of Nassau Reading Council’s Young Authors Contest. They are seniors Cindy Hom, Aubri Juhasz, Stevie Matthews, Matthew Treiber and Nina Policano.

Yeoju Je, a fourth-grader at Vernon in Ms. Link’s class, was the second place winner in the Kenneth Gambone Writing Contest.

The writing and artistic creativity of Oyster Bay High School students are beautifully displayed in the award winning annual publication called “AGAPAE.”
