Alums Hold 50-Year Reunion

Thirty-four members of the Floral Park Memorial High School class of 1964 participated in a 50-year reunion during the weekend of Sept. 12. Early-arriving alums were treated to a guided tour of the high school, including the two large building extensions and the enlarged composite track. On Friday evening, many more members of the class met for refreshments at a popular local pub.

On Saturday, the reunion dinner-dance was held. Attendees wore name tags which featured their high school yearbook photos, and received commemorative reunion T-shirts. There was a brief ceremony honoring the 22 deceased members of the class. Personal messages from those who could not attend were read out to those present.

Six alumni who had traveled more than 1,000 miles to the reunion were recognized, and Phyllis Scaramuccia Reid, who had traveled more than 2,000 miles received applause and gifts. A DJ played music from the 1950s and ‘60s as background to a three-course dinner served on red and white linens, the school colors of Floral Park Memorial High School.

The reunion concluded with a delicious brunch at Crabtree’s Restaurant. Organizers of the event were Ginny Bohner and Lynn Gerner Flanagan.

The Class of 1964 also dedicated an engraved personalized brick to the new garden that will surround the Floral Park Memorial High School flag pole.
