A 43-year-old man was critically injured when a hit-and-run truck driver struck his bicycle in Holbrook on Monday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Bradley J. Samuel of East Patchogue was riding his bike eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle west of Coates Avenue shortly before 9 p.m., police said.

The suspect who fled the scene is believed to have been driving a large commercial truck with over-sized mirrors, with damage to the passenger side view mirror.

Samuel was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where, he is being treated for head injuries.
