Movie: Good Will Hunting

Come to the Bethpage Library auditorium and lobby at 2 p.m. for a screening of one of the late Robin Williams’ many memorable films, Good Will Hunting. Will Hunting (Matt Damon) is a custodian and mathematical genius who has had one too many problems with the law. Will’s last chance and only hope is a psychology professor (Robin Williams) who might be the only person able to reach him and keep him out of a lengthy jail term. In the process, Will is pushed to deal with his past and discovers the only thing holding him back is himself. Starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. (1997, R, 126 minutes).

A Tribute to Nora Ephron

Join actress and television personality Shirley Romaine as she sends a love letter to the wise, witty and wonderful journalist, novelist, screenwriter/director, playwright and blogger, Nora Ephron. Romaine will share selections from all of the above plus clips from Ephron’s films. This event takes place at 2 p.m. in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library auditorium.

Dungeons & Dragons

Looking for a quest? Head to the Bethpage Library and sign up for a free introduction to the fifth edition of the fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, hosted by Ginger from Game Master Games. Learn about the game’s rules, create your personalized character and go on your very first adventure. Each participant will receive an official Dungeons & Dragons Adventurer’s Log. Dungeons & Dragons is an interactive game of strategy that will inspire and challenge the creativity of its players as they create and design humans, elves, dwarves and other types of fantasy characters to play in quests and adventures led by a Dungeon Master, who runs the game and guides the story. This program is suitable for teens in grade six and up and takes place in the meeting room and kitchen from 2-5 p.m. There will be soda and pizza for all you hungry adventurers. Space is limited.

LI Woodworkers Show

The Long Island Woodworkers are hosting the 18th annual Woodworking and Furniture Show at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Rd., on Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The exhibition will include a display of skillfully crafted furniture, from mission to modern as well as a variety of handcrafted wood art. There will also be demonstrations on carving, scrolling and turning, as well as a toy workshop with free toys for kids.

Music from Gino DiNapoli

Gino DiNapoli is returning to the Bethpage Library auditorium to delight his audience with the best of Italian music. The singer/keyboard player is versed in many styles of music, but his specialty is Italian music. DiNapoli is the real deal when it comes to Neapolitan/Italian music with a vast repertoire. He is well-known on Long Island where he has performed at many libraries, universities, festivals and radio stations. The concert is from 2-3:30 p.m. Admission is free and Bethpage School District #21 residents will be seated first; out-of-area residents as space permits. A Bethpage Library card is a ticket of admission for the cardholder and a companion.

AARP Defensive Driving

The Plainview Mid-Island Y JCC offers two sessions of defensive driving. Pre-registration is required and space is available on a first come, first served basis. The fee for AARP members is $20, and for non-AARP member, $25 with checks made payable to AARP. The class runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Mid-Island Y JCC at 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview. Parkinson’s Group

A dual support group for those affected by Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. The group is led by Heather Goldman, LMSW and Kelly Soel, RN from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Mid-Island Y JCC located at 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview. For more information call 516-822-3535.

Free Dental Lecture

Dr. Knoll from All4urhealth.org will be hosting a free lecture titled, “Smile Again – All About Dental Implants,” at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 1575 Round Swamp Road, Plainview. All4urhealth.org strives to orchestrate local resources and raise community awareness, in an effort to promote health and wellbeing.
