A 94-year-old man died after crashing his car into a tractor trailer his hometown of Huntington Station on Thursday afternoon.

Suffolk County police said Salvatore Tornatore was driving a Cadillac westbound on East Jericho Turnpike, when he crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a car carrier trailer near the corner of Engelke Avenue at 2:30 p.m.

The victim was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Michael Nicienski of Rhode Island, was not injured.

Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Team officers performed a safety check on the car carrier trailer at the scene.

Second Squad detectives impounded the Cadillac while the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
