Last Saturday, while dozens of local shoppers were zipping in and out of Covert Avenue shops, working their weekend errands and last-minute Valentine’s Day shopping, a brazen criminal attempted to rob Chase Bank, located on east side of the avenue, nearest the municipal parking lot.
Nassau County Police Department’s Major Case Bureau is investigating the attempted bank robbery, which occurred late-morning, at approximately 11:51 a.m. Police said the male subject entered Chase Bank, at 110 Covert Ave., approached the teller and verbally demanded money.
The teller did not respond and the subject fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction without cash, police said.
There were four employees and one customer present in the bank at the time of the robbery.
The subject is described as a Hispanic male, late teens-early 20s, approximately 5’6”-5’8” tall, medium build. No further description is available at this time.
Less than one hour later, police officers were called to investigate a bank robbery that occurred less than five miles south of Stewart Manor. At approximately 12:40 p.m., police said a male subject entered Capital One Bank at 356 N. Central Ave. in Valley Stream, approached the teller and verbally demanded money.
In this case, police said the subject threatened use of a firearm, but none was displayed. The teller complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The subject fled on foot westbound on Clarendon Drive. with the proceeds. There were five employees and one customer present in the bank at the time of the robbery. No injuries were reported.
The Capital One Bank robbery subject is described as a white or Hispanic male, approximately 5’6”-5’7”, light complexion, thin build, wearing dark sunglasses, oatmeal-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, light brown boots and a scarf across his face.
