America todayThomas Hart Benton painted the America Today mural for the New School for Social Research in 1931 to adorn the school’s boardroom in New York City. It is a sweeping panorama of American life throughout the 1920s.

This 10-panel mural is featured in a newly designed space at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which recreates the room that once housed the mural. It is astounding. Professor Thomas Germano will be at the Jericho Library on Wednesday, April 29 at 2 p.m. to address the complex iconography of America Today. If you can’t get to the Museum to see the exhibit, join us for this informative lecture on Thomas Hart Benton’s epic creation.
