
Sanskriti Bimal,a junior at Mineola High School, has been honored for her volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. An ultimate honor of presidential recognition, recipients receive a personalized certificate, an official pin, medallion or coin and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes American citizens and legal residents of the country for their Volunteer service in bettering communities and the world. It is a premier volunteer awards program, encouraging public to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition.
“It is a tremendous honor,” Bimal said. “I am humbled by the recognition.”
Her message to youth is “I urge others to volunteer also, to make a positive difference, to become a voice for the voiceless, to get involved in causes near and dear to your hearts, be they local, national or international. Being complacent will not solve the problem. Doing something about it will.”
At the 7th annual Long Island Volunteer Fair, organized at Farmingdale State College to celebrate National Volunteer Week, Dr. Veronica Henry, executive assistant to the president and chief diversity officer at Farmingdale State College, presented Bimal with a certificate, felicitation letter and Bronze Pin Award, on behalf of President Barack Obama.
“Sanskriti is a model student who is actively involved in service learning activities and helping make a difference in the local community and the larger society,” Mineola High School principal Ed Escobar, said. “I am certain she will continue to do wonderful things that will contribute to making our world a better place.”
Bimal actively at the Long Island Volunteer Center (LIVC), volunteers and as a youth ambassador.
“Sanskriti imbibes the spirit of volunteerism, working to improve the quality of life of others,” Diana O’Neill, executive director of of LIVC. “She is ever ready to volunteer to help out disadvantaged communities. She is passionate about educating the underprivileged girl child. She advocates their cause through her writing, public speaking, organizing events and volunteering.”
