Manhasset Indians Crush Trojans In Woodstick

Woodstick_051315BThe lacrosse rivalry between Manhasset High School and Garden City High School has a history of over 127 years. This past Saturday, May 2, the Manhasset Indians once again captured the approval of the home crowd by winning the Woodstick Classic with a resounding 13 to 10 defeat over the Garden City Trojans.
The crowd under the lights watched as the Trojans were ahead in the first half 7-4 when the Manhasset Indians started to make their moves. Tyler Dunn intercepted a ball and scored a goal with a follow-up goal by Thomas Duran. Things started to change. Manhasset came alive and from behind in the second half as Matthew Gavin tied things up. And, that was the beginning of the end.
The game was exciting and Manhasset continued working furiously against the Trojan defense scoring four more goals by Logan Dunn, Gavin and two by Kevin Mack. Jack Miller scored two goals during the game and had 2 assists. Henry Mullholland was excellent as Manhasset’s goalkeeper and only allowed the Trojans to score three in the second half. Last year, the Trojans won the Woodstick in overtime 9-8 with their home-field advantage. Overall, as history shows, Manhasset has won more Woodstick Classics than their Garden City opponents.
