Chiefs Defeat Garden City

The Mineola Chiefs topped Garden City 8-5 on April 19. During the away game, defenseman Alex Baker led a tough Mineola defense by stopping two passes that could have turned into goals and made very nice crease slides to help lock down the GC offense.

Scoring for Mineola was led by attackman Nicolas Pascarella who led Mineola with three unassisted goals and awesome face dodging.

Connor Griffith had his first goal of the year coming of a nice middie pass and took a hard rip to the corner of the cage. Mineola attackmen moved the ball very well. Jake Delio picked up ground balls, Stephen Anderson and Charles Karen both had nice passes that led to goals.

Jack McCormack won five face-offs and scored two goals while Joe Keesee added two more goals and won four faceoffs.

Joe O’Connell, Brady Cooper, Blake Lyons, Logan Martins all played very strong defense while moving the ball up the field for Mineola.

Goaltender Jake Grimm took a hard shot off of his thigh but that did not stop him from making six saves and making key clears, which kept Garden City to two goals and a Mineola 4-2 lead at half time. Goalie James Demakopoulos kept that momentum going in the second half with four more saves and secured Mineola’s victory over Garden City. (IR- Daniel Webber, Rusty Carr)
