The Science Olympiad team of South Woods Middle School recently competed in Syracuse, New York against 235 other teams in the state and took home eight medals en route to a 10th-place finish.
Third-place medals in entomology went to Sydney Chen and Emily Wong. Third-place and fifth-place medals went to Ben Huang and Andy Yang in meteorology and the “Crave the Wave” category, respectively, while sixth-place was awarded to Katrina Tun and Rebecca Geiger in the “Write It Do It” category.
The team earned top 10 spots in six other events, including Bridge Building, Disease Detective, Dynamic Planet, Elastic Launch Glider, Fossils and Road Scholar.
The South Woods team included Maanuv Allu, Eugene Aspiras, Sydney Chen, Rebecca Geiger, Ben Huang, Jason Lan, Cole Menchel, Alina Pratkin, Merin Thomas, Katrina Tun, Vanessa Vija, Grace Wang, Emily Wong, Yannan Xu and Andy Yang.
