The Village of East Williston will perform village-wide fire hydrant flushing starting Monday, June 1, and ending Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The periodic flushing of hydrants is necessary to ensure that hydrants are working properly, and to release sediment that occurs naturally within a water main system.
You may experience temporary discoloration of water, due to rust and minerals in the water mains. Residents should run the cold water faucet each day during flushing to detect discoloration. Should discoloration occur, run the cold water faucet at the lowest point in the house (basement sink, first floor bathtub or sink). If water is discolored, do not run the hot water or do any laundry.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this main flushing may cause, but the testing is necessary and benefits our entire community,” the village said in a statement.
