Daly Class Presents About American Revolution

DalyClass_060315A

DalyClass_060315AOn Friday, May 1, Mr. Stavrinos’ fifth grade class at Daly Elementary School presented a smartboard media book slideshow about the American Revolution to a classroom filled with parents, teachers, and the principal. The class worked for several weeks doing research, taking notes, sequentially organizing information, typing the final report, and drawing an illustration to accompany it. It started with the children pulling the alphabet letters from a hat to see what their assignments would be. Some presented two reports and some wrote three. All aspects of the American Revolution were covered in the alphabet from A-Z, including important people (Paul Revere, George Washington, Minutemen, and spies), important battles (Battle of Yorktown and the Battle of New York), important events (Boston Tea Party and the Signing of the Declaration of Independence), important places (Philadelphia and Valley Forge), and important laws (Quartering Act and Oppressive Acts). Students worked hard on their oral presentations which accompanied their slideshow entries. They worked on having eye contact with their audience, fluency, expression and using a powerful voice.

After all 26 reports had been presented, both the guests and the students were invited to a feast featuring patriotic foods prepared by the parents, including an “American Apple Pie” and a tray of red, white, and blue fresh fruit. The event was a huge success.
