Don’t forget, on this Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 49th annual House Tour sponsored by the Roslyn Landmark Society will make its triumphant return.
The highlight of the day, as noted in previous issues of The Roslyn News, will be the reopening of the Ellen E. Ward Clock Tower, the symbol of the village. Local residents can climb its stairs and enjoy a panoramic view of Hempstead Harbor and the villages that make up the Roslyn area. The opening is even more special as the Clock Tower, this year, is celebrating its 120th anniversary.
In addition to the clock tower, the newly-renovated Warren Wilkey house (ca. 1864) on Main Street will also be open to the public. The clock tower and the Wilkey House will be joined on the tour’s itinerary by the always-popular Van Nostrand Starkins house (ca. 1860).
At all the stops, docents and tour guides will provide details about the original owners, architectural style and other interesting anecdotes.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the tour, and may be purchased at Bryant Library, 2 Paper Mill Rd., or the Roslyn Landmark Society building at 36 Main St.
Landmark Society officials note that due to the historic nature of these private homes, no children under 12, people with spiked heels, those smoking or any interior photography will be permitted.
