Port Washington resident Alan Honorof was reappointed to the New York State Court of Claims. Judge Honorof was nominated for reappointment by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and confirmed by the New York State Senate. Honorof presides exclusively over felony cases. “Alan Honorof is a highly experienced, well-qualified judge. The New York State Court of Claims will continue to benefit from his service. Congratulations to Judge Honorof on this well-deserved reappointment,” said State Senator Jack Martins.
Prior to his initial appointment, Honorof had a more than 20-year career as a litigator, both in private practice and as an assistant district attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s office. He was originally appointed by Gov. George Pataki to the New York State Court of Claims in 1996. “This type of public service was always my dream,” said Honorof. “I continue to be honored by the faith and trust placed in me by the people of the State of New York.”
Honorof graduated from George Washington University with a BA in political science. He served in the Army and the National Guard. He received his JD from Temple University School of Law.
Honorof has lived in Port Washington since 1999. “I love Port Washington,” said Honorof. “I live in Tom’s Point and I get home and look through my kitchen window at Manhasset Bay and it’s beautiful. I would never live any place else.” Honorof has two children in their twenties. When his children were young, his family lived in Plandome Manor and his children attended Manhasset Public Schools. Honorof grew up on the South Shore of Long Island.
“I was sworn in on Tuesday for my third term,” said Honorof. “My son came and sat and watched in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the New York State Senate. It was so exciting for my son to see it happen.”
