May was National Bike Safety Month and in honor or that, the Boy Scouts of Troop 4 in Floral Park, along with AAA, hosted a Bike Rodeo for children on Sunday, May 17, in the municipal parking lot at village hall.
“As Scouts we look for ways to serve our neighbors and our community,” said Clark Adomaitis, senior patrol leader for Troop 4. “As the weather got warmer, we thought it was the right time to make sure the neighborhood kids were riding around on well maintained bikes and give them a refresher on bike safety.”
The Scouts and their leaders helped to teach about bike safety and handling skills by using simulated situations. Children had the chance to have their bicycles safety inspected and their helmets fitted properly. They took turns riding through a skills course were they could apply their learned techniques to the various challenges. Scouts and rodeo participants also learned the rules of the road and how to ride safely.
