As noted in last week’s issue of The Roslyn News, numerous local athletes competed in the May 30 Girls On The Run (GOTR) 5K run.
Roslyn area athletes from the East Williston School District who competed in the program included Lana Cale, Maia Cale, Sophia Caputo, Jessica Eder, Robyn Garnock, Paulina Grgas, Allison Hackett, Lauren Hackett, Rio Malito, Riya Mittle, Valeria Pashko, Carly Rick, Emilie Sakai, Lauren Tavolacci, Jessica Tu, Gia Verma and Ria Verma.
The school district’s North Side PTO sponsored the program. Coaches who assisted the runners are Kristine Hackett, Visa Verma, Danielle Hundt, Christina Caputo and Reena Mittle.
Girls who are in grades 3-5 next school year are eligible to participate in GOTR. The East Williston District is working on creating and organizing a program for students in grades 6 and 7 at Willets Road.
In other news, The Wheatley School girls’ varsity track and field team was recognized as the Scholar-Athlete Team Champion by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). The school district congratulates all the team members and coaches Laura Gurick and Michael Harrison.
