Graduating seniors from Syosset High School were the proud recipients of more than 100 scholarships and awards when the school hosted its 2015 Awards Assembly on June 9.
The Awards Assembly is an annual event that pools scholarships and recognitions both in and out of the district to reward outstanding seniors who have made contributions in numerous fields, including community service.
The awards ranged from academic excellence, such as student performance at Intel, Siemens and ISEF science competitions, to awards in English, literature and music.
Community awards were presented by benefactors for local memorial scholarships and representatives from organizations such as the Islamic Center of Long Island, Cosmetic Dentistry of Long Island and the Korean-American Friends of Syosset.
Both the Army ROTC and Naval ROTC organizations gave out scholarships worth $200,000 and $180,000 respectively. Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs was also on hand to grant Legislative Awards to students.
The evening also provides an opportunity for members of each elementary school’s respective PTA group to connect with current students and recognize their work.
