Community Education is excited to be hosting its first ever, Open House Week from Monday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Oct. 2. We invite you to come in and discover what we are all about. There are dozens of classes that you can visit at no cost. This is a unique opportunity to meet their instructors, see them in action, and become more familiar with what we can offer you. All classes take place at the Cumberland Adult Center, 30 Cumberland Ave. in Great Neck, unless otherwise specified.

In addition to long-time favorites, we’ve added a few new ones. In “Italy: City by City,” learn about the cuisine and culture of five Italian cities. “Action Cinema” will provide advanced French speakers a thematic introduction to contemporary French cinema. Their Fine Arts & Crafts department adds “Hand Clay Building” as well a “Painting and the Decorative Arts” and “Printmaking for Fun” on Saturdays. Are you looking for that perfect family portrait in time for the holidays? Enroll in “Take Your Best Holiday Photo,” a three-session course designed to walk you through the process from start to finish.

Discuss the meanings and messages of some great literary works in a new book group titled, “Arguably, Some of the Best Books of the 20th Century.”

Looking for a new day trip destination? Their trip leaders continue to find great venues for you. Visit the Museum of Chinese in America, along with a dim sum lunch and Chinatown tour. Explore Picasso sculpture at MoMA, or travel to Philadelphia to see the National Museum of American Jewish History. You can also view some surprising “castles” during a “Hudson River Grandeur” tour.

If you haven’t received the catalog, call 516-441-4949, and they will send one right out to you. They look forward to welcoming you.
