Jon Borris, the son of longtime Port Washington residents Rosemary and George Borris, has been promoted to senior vice president, Pop Promotion, at Columbia Records. Borris is a veteran promotion executive who has used his expertise to expose the label’s top talent across the country. Most recently, he led successful Pop radio campaigns for Platinum-selling artists Hozier, Pharrell, One Direction, Calvin Harris and John Legend. He was previously vice president of promotion for the label. He joined Columbia in 2006 as vice president of top-40 promotion.
Borris began his career in the music business in 1998 as a promotion assistant for Atlantic Records, moving to Sony Music Entertainment in 1999 to work as a promotion assistant for 550 Music/Epic Records. In 2001, he was appointed regional promotion manager for Epic Records in Houston, Texas. In 2002, he was appointed regional promotion manager for Epic Records in Miami, FL. In 2003, he was appointed associate director of Epic’s top-40 department. He was promoted to director of top 40 at Epic in 2004, and senior director in 2005.
Borris graduated from Loyola College in Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1998. He graduated from Schreiber High School in 1994.
