Gourmet burger joints are the hot new thing, so naturally locals will be thrilled to learn that a second George Martin’s Burger Bar–Long Island’s original burger bar–had its grand opening in Massapequa on Friday, Aug. 28. The George Martin Restaurant Group has been thriving on Long Island for more than 25 years because the team behind the George Martin restaurants has a true sense of what makes a successful neighborhood eatery.
The original burger bar opened its doors in Rockville Centre in 2011 has received such positive feedback from the community. Now, the group continues to expand with the opening of its second Burger Bar, located at 4902 Merrick Rd., Massapequa Park.
The menu, composed by Corporate Executive Chef Frank Greco, boasts creative, high-quality burgers, along with a variety of non-burger options to tempt all taste buds. Appetizers range from $6.95 to $11.95 and include the group’s signature Chili Pop Shrimp tossed in a spicy Thai chili sauce; Brie Stuffed Pretzels with brown sugar and fig jam; and Chicken Meatball Lollipops with honey sriracha, crushed peanuts and scallions. Salads range from $7.95 to $16.95 and include the Chopped Brown Derby Cobb with grilled chicken, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, boiled egg, bleu cheese crumbles and George Martin sauce; and the Mandarin Noodle Salad with crispy noodles, oranges, peanuts, Chinese cabbage and a sesame-ginger dressing.
The signature burger and winner of the 2014 Long Island Pulse Battle of the Burger competition, the Black Jack, is an exclusive blend topped with candied bacon, pepper jack cheese, black jack sauce and cherry peppers on a brioche roll. Other notable burgers include the Moody Bleu, an exclusive blend with a port wine glaze, melted bleu cheese and onion rings on a brioche roll; the Jive Turkey, a turkey burger topped with apricot-cranberry compote, melted Brie and honey mustard on a multigrain roll; and the Dixie Smokehouse, a beef n’ bacon smash burger topped with BBQ pulled pork, crispy onions and pepper jack cheese on a buttered brioche bun. A “spuds” bar, unique to the Massapequa location, will include the choice of cottage fries, sweet potato tots or hand-cut shoestring fries with toppings such as Loaded – bacon, scallions and sour cream; Smothered Disco–mozzarella and brown gravy; or Chili Cheese–black bean chili, beer cheese queso and jalapeño.
Non-burger options include the Tex-Havana Grilled Cheese with pulled pork, candied bacon, Gruyere and spicy mustard on ciabatta; Grilled or Blackened Salmon with sweet chili glaze, roasted vegetables and coleslaw; and Mom’s Meatloaf, an exclusive ground beef blend with roasted mushroom ale gravy, rosemary and sea salt steak fries. And no meal at Burger Bar is considered complete without the infamous brownie sundae for dessert.
