Garden Arts Studio Showcase

What did you do this summer in the heat? Students at the Garden Art Studio in Mineola got to explore a variety of mediums in the cool air condition studio. In the summer camps, students come from all over, but every year the East Meadow School District nominates two students for a scholarship to the studio. “I had one of the teachers at the school bring her daughter to several of our art classes  and fell in love with my teaching approach to creativity and nominated the studio for their scholarship program for their fifth grade graduates,” says art director Lisa Fazio. “I take pride in creating new and challenging program each year that no one else has for the past 21 years. It says a lot when you’re nominated by other teachers and I am grateful for that.”

New this summer are the adult art and meditation classes and go with the flow watercolor classes for adults. Even grownups need to kick back and remember what it’s like to be a kid and explore their creative side. One day workshops for kids in cartoon-finding your funny bone and trading cards with a twist.

“This is a great opportunity for a student to study with a working artist in their own studio especially with recent budget cuts and I applaud the PTA for supporting the arts,” Fazio said. “Many of our students stay with us an average of 5 to 10 years and move on to earning scholarships towards college and I am so honored to help them on their journey.”
