The Sounds Of Music Are Alive In Bayville

The Village of Bayville is a lovely place to be in the summer time and their annual summer concert series makes it even better.  The Music Under the Stars concert series, which just completed its 15th year in the village, had many exciting acts this year thanks to concert event planner Dominique DiMiceli and members of the Bayville Recreation Committee.

“We booked five concert dates with one rain date this summer and so far all of our concerts have gone on as planned because of the beautiful weather,” said DiMiceli, who is the daughter of Donna DiMiceli, recreation secretary in the village. “Last Friday was our biggest turnout yet, where we tried something new, having three bands in one concert slot.”

She said that the Music Under the Stars concert series is an incredible opportunity to showcase local talent on Long Island.

“We have all types of bands on stage including rock and roll, alternative rock, funk and indie rock,” said DiMiceli. “All acts are nothing short of fantastic and the concerts are free for anyone who would like to come out to support the artists and the community.”

The concert series takes place at West Harbor Memorial Beach and the artists perform on Town of Oyster Bay’s Showmobile makeshift stage. The concerts are held on Friday evenings in July and August from 8 to 10 p.m., weather permitting.

This season’s acts included the Huntington-based funk band, Ladies Drink Free, the “free range” rock and blues band Chicken Head and veterans to the concert series, the Cavemollies, featuring former members of Billy Idol, Riot and Joan Jett.

The Friday, Aug. 14, concert included something new to the series: three bands in one night, including a band called Steady Hands that has a drummer from Bayville in their group.

Because of the beautiful weather that kept the concert series going as planned the Recreation Committee decided to hold a community Karaoke event, which took place on Friday, Aug. 21, from 7 to 10 p.m. Children were able to perform karaoke acts from 7 to 8 p.m. and adults showed off their vocal range from 8 to 10 p.m.

The Music Under the Stars concert series is free and open to the public and is expected to continue again next summer.
