Morris Baron was born Oct. 5, 1918, to David and Sarah Baron and died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Sept. 3. His family, including his sister, Pauline, was by his side.
Baron was a lifelong resident of Great Neck. His father built the historic Playhouse Theater, which bears the rooftop inscription “Baron Building 1922,” and the family owned the property that was the Soundview Golf Course, which later became Great Neck Estates.
He returned to Great Neck after receiving a Purple Heart for his military service in Europe in World War II, and on March 4, 1947, he married Cecily Shanberg. Together they raised their family of four boys, David, Stephen, Ronny and Bruce.
Baron’s business endeavors began with a gas station. He went on to become a Lincoln Mercury dealer and started Baron Motors, and later Port Motors, Lincoln Mercury dealerships with his brother-in-law and best friend, Bernie Cohen.
He is survived by his wife, Cecily, his sons, David (Iris), Stephen (Andrea) and Ronny (Kerry), and by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He left a legacy of accomplishments and he will be missed by all who loved him.
