Halloween is one of the most exciting days of the year and what better way is there to prepare your children for the holiday than to complete some Halloween crafts with them? The best part about these crafts is that minimal spending is required; most of the items that you will need can be found around your house. Start the Halloween festivities a little early and try out these creative crafts.
Egg Carton Spiders
What You’ll Need:
Black paint
An egg carton
Black pipe
cleaners
Googly eyes
Glue
Pen
String
Scissors
Tape
Steps:
1. Cut out one of the cups of an egg carton.
2. Paint the cup black. Let it dry for 15 to 20 minutes.
3. Put a dot of glue on the back of two of the googly eyes. Place one eye on the egg carton cup and press down lightly for 15 seconds. Do the same for the other eye. Give the glue a few minutes to dry.
4. Cut two of the pipe cleaners in half.
5. Poke a small whole with a pen through two spots of the eggcup on each side.
6. Stick the pipe cleaners into the piece of the eggcup to create four legs. Bend the pipe cleaners in the center and also about an inch from bottom to create feet.
7. Poke a hole on the top of the eggcup and stick the string inside. Tape the bottom of the string to the inside of the cup.
8. Hang the spider from a window, fan or any other elevated
location.
Ghost Light Holder
What You’ll Need:
Mason jar
A white piece of paper
Black construction paper
Scissors
Glue
1 LED taper candle
Steps:
1. Open the mason jar. Hold the white paper upright against the mason jar. Make sure the bottom of the paper is against the table. Tuck the top of the paper around the opening of the mason jar.
2. Cut eyes and a mouth out of the black construction paper.
3. Glue the eyes and mouth onto
the white paper on the mason jar.
4. Place the LED taper candle inside of the mason jar.
Toilet Paper Mummy Candy Holder
What You’ll Need:
Toilet paper
Toilet paper roll
Googly eyes
Glue
Tape
Black marker
White oak tag
Scissors
Steps:
1. Fold over one sheet of toilet paper three times. Glue
the inner folds so that they will stick together.
2. Glue the folded toilet paper sheet to the toilet paper roll. Repeat
steps 1 and 2 until the entire roll
is covered.
3. Cut a circle out of a piece of oak tag. Tape the circle to the bottom of the toilet paper roll.
4. Roll up four more sheets of toilet paper. Glue or tape two of them on opposite sides on the roll to create arms. Tape the other two rolled sheets to the inside of the roll to create legs.
5. Glue the googly eyes on to the front of the roll.
6. With the marker, draw any other facial feature desired.
7. Use the mummy to hold candy or pens, pencils and markers.
