Syosset High School’s Thalian chapter of the National Honor Society kicked off its second annual Language Partners program for the 2015-2016 school year by hosting a meet and greet event in the school’s guidance resource center.
At this event, English as a New Language students from China, Japan, Taiwan, Russia and Peru were paired with Syosset National Honor Society students to act as “language partners.”
The goal of the program is to help acclimate new students to the school, allow them to practice English-speaking skills and introduce new students to the various extracurricular opportunities available at Syosset High School.
At the meet and greet, National Honor Society and ENL students interviewed one another and discussed the differences and similarities between their backgrounds. In addition, they exchanged contact information and have been encouraged to keep in touch on a regular basis.
