For about an hour’s drive or less, Nassau County residents can experience the enchanted model train show at the New York Botanical Gardens. This unique and annual exhibit inside the historic Enid A. Haupt Conservatory has different trains chugging by 150 historic New York City landmarks. There are dozens of trains running on different tracks representing different eras of train travel. There are also commuter trains and a track dedicated to the children’s Thomas the Tank locomotive. Historic landmarks include the Brooklyn Bridge, George Washington Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, The New York Public Library, Yankee Stadium and different old brownstones. All the structures, bridges and tunnels are made from natural and biodegradable material found at the gardens.
