It is with bittersweet and thoughtful intention that I announce my departure from the Women’s Fund of Long Island (effective Feb. 19). Many of you have heard me on my soap-box talk about the importance of supporting initiatives in our own backyards, and I continue to strongly believe in this ideal. However, a wonderful opportunity has come across my path to continue to be a part of change in one of the poorest countries in the world—Sierra Leone. I will be assuming the position of executive director at Shine On Sierra Leone at the end of February to work on building sustainable communities through women’s empowerment, health, education and economic development initiatives.
I say bittersweet because the opportunity to work at WFLI with our intimate family of grantee partners past and present, GirlsFLI leaders, community and corporate partners, incredible Board and staff and so many amazing, passionate and compassionate changemakers has been a highlight of my professional career and personal life, and it will be difficult to leave. For the past 25 years, WFLI has been a network of support for hundreds of organizations and has made an impact on the lives of thousands of women and girls across the region. I am so very proud of the work that we do and grateful for each of your commitments and efforts in supporting me over the last 3.5 years, and the mission and vision of WFLI and all our amazing partners.
The WFLI board of directors is actively recruiting an interim director so that there will be a seamless transition upon my departure, year three of GirlsFLI—our young women’s leadership program—has begun, WFLI 2016 social justice grants application portal will open at the end of January, and the 2016 Women Achievers Breakfast has been scheduled for Oct. 27. Please save the date!
While my new position will have me traveling to other parts of the world, my home will remain in New York, and I would love to continue to be a part of the important work you are all doing here on Long Island.
