The Westbury Business Improvement District (B.I.D.) was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Town of North Hempstead’s Business Tourism and Development Corporation Downtown Beautification Matching Grant Program. Funds may be utilized for streetscape improvements such as tree planters and other landscaping, as well as street furniture, trash receptacles and signage.“The B.I.D. works very hard, as a partner with the village, to make our downtown the best it can be; an attractive, vibrant and interesting place for residents and visitors. This grant will assist them in their work,” said Village Mayor Peter Cavallaro.
“The Westbury B.I.D. is very pleased to be a recipient of the Beautification Matching Grant Program awarded to us from the Town of North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation” said Westbury B.I.D. Executive Director Dawn Blinn. “We look forward to beginning work on our new Downtown Beautification and Streetscape Program on Post Avenue and throughout our district.”
In October of last year, Town of North Hempstead posted on its website that Business and Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) Chairwoman Judi Bosworth and Executive Director Kim Kaiman announced that the BTDC would be offering matching fund grant opportunities to not-for-profit organizations and business improvement districts to beautify downtowns.
“We want to work with our local businesses to make the downtown living and shopping experience the best it can be,” Chairwoman Bosworth said. “It is my hope that, through this program, we can beautify our commercial corridors and attract consumers to allow the businesses in our town to thrive.”
The B.I.D. has not yet decided how it will allocate the funds.
