I am writing to urge my fellow Mineola residents to elect John Colbert to the board of trustees this March. If you’re like me, someone who has established roots in the community with no intention of leaving Mineola, you have probably noticed the enormous apartment buildings that are going up around the village. I am concerned about what these enormous buildings are doing to our quality of life. It seems as though nobody on the village board is looking out for the interests of the residents. These projects have been given the stamp of approval with no consideration for the fact that we, the residents, have to live in the shadows of these monstrosities.
I remember when John Colbert was the Mayor of Mineola. There were projects in the village, but the difference was, they were for the benefit of the residents and not for the benefit of big real estate developers. Under Mayor Colbert’s leadership, we received an updated library, a new community center, as well as a renovated firehouse and pool.
These were projects that directly benefited us, the residents.
Now, the current board seems more concerned about making deals with real estate developers than doing what is in our best interests. I am voting for John Colbert to village trustee because the residents need a voice on the board, someone who will look out for the best interests of the future of Mineola. Join me in electing John Colbert to the board and end this practice of rubber-stamping big construction in our village.
