The North Shore Kayak Club begins its 12th season with an information session on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the Port Washington Public Library. The club began in July 2004. Paddles are held usually twice weekly from June through November, including evening paddles scheduled most Wednesday nights. The club has home and away events. Home paddles typically start out on Manhasset Bay, while away paddles can occur anywhere from Little Neck Bay, to the Hudson River, to the Mohawk River. Strict water safety guidelines are adhered to.
The club “gives back” to the community—from volunteering at the annual Third Grade Model Boat Regatta, to helping out as spotters at the Community Chest Kayak Run, to participating in an annual beach cleanup organized by the American Littoral Society. Club officers for 2016 are: President Alan Bergman; Vice President Jim Roman; Secretary/Treasurer Seth Ehrlich; Codirectors of Trip Planning Lorri Elton and Bern Wyss; and Director of Non-Kayaking Activities David Cohen. For more information, call 917-400-7041 or visit the club on Facebook.
