The Health & Safety Committee of the Syosset Council of PTAs sponsored the event, Celebrate Calm by Kirk Martin last month. Martin provided practical, life-changing advice to help transform an intense child during an evening presentation at H.B. Thompson Middle School with more than 150 parents, teachers and administrators. Attendees said Martin was engaging and knowledgeable about children of all ages.
His main focus was that parents need to let things happen. A parent cannot control every situation that occurs in their children’s lives both inside and outside of the home. When parents step back, children will step up and do what they need to do, even if it’s not exactly the way that a parent may have wanted them to handle it. Throughout the presentation, Martin assured parents that they are not the only ones dealing with any specific behavioral issues with their children.
