I am a parent at Manorhaven Elementary School and I am writing in support of the proposed budget adopted by the BOE. Manorhaven is a wonderful, vibrant school, but we are in desperate need of additional teachers.
At Manorhaven, we have a rapidly growing student population. Nothing suggests that this growth will slow any time in the near future. In order to keep class sizes within the board’s class size policy, we will need two additional sections at Manorhaven next year. This proposed budget addresses this need.
The board has put forth a budget within the tax cap that provides five additional elementary school teachers. (Two of these teachers would be assigned to Manorhaven.) This additional staffing will go a long way toward keeping class sizes down in our elementary schools. Also, the proposed budget includes increases in staffing in other much needed areas like ENL, guidance and a business teacher at the high school.
I believe that this budget will allow the district to maintain the high level of education for which Port Washington is known. Please join me on May 17 in voting yes on the budget.
