Manhasset residents will go to the polls next Tuesday, May 17, to vote on the 2016-17 school budget of $92,008,827, which was adopted by the Manhasset School Board on April 19. The budget is a 1.79 percent increase or $1,619,200 over the current budget. The 2016-17 budget places high emphasis on maintaining and enhancing the 4 A’s of academics, arts, athletics and activities programs across the school district. The upcoming vote will be a simple majority vote. Polls open from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the Manhasset High School gym at 200 Memorial Place.
In addition to the budget vote, two seats on the Manhasset Board of Education are up for election. The two seats are currently held by Regina Rule, president of the BOE, and Craig Anderson. Rule will run for reelection. “It is an honor to serve on the Manhasset Board of Education and support the fine work our students, our faculty and our staff do in our schools every day. I enjoy working collaboratively with our school community to address the needs of our schools,” said Rule.
Anderson is not running. Christine Monteroso, an active member of the Manhasset School Community Association, is running for the seat.
