It has been a fun, educational and productive year for Webelos Cub Scout Den 2 of Port Washington Pack 77.
The den, which is made up of fourth-grade boys from Salem Elementary School, has just completed the required Webelos Adventure activities and earned their Webelo badges.

In the fall, the den met with Master Beekeeper Rich Bloom, who taught the Scouts about bees and other insects. They got a close-up look at an active beehive and tasted pure honey from Bloom’s bees. After the event, the boys went on a nature walk through Christopher Morley Park. The Scouts also participated in an exercise competition consisting of running, jumping, sit-ups, push-ups and an obstacle course. They charted their achievements over the following month and saw their improvement. In the winter, the boys planned a dinner, worked in teams to cook an appetizer, entrée and dessert, then set the table and enjoyed their feast. The den also met with members of Port Washington’s Fire Medic Company Number 1, where the Scouts were taught first aid, learned the importance of EMS first responders, and received a tour of the fire house and ambulance. This spring, the boys discussed “netiquette,” including Internet privacy and cyber bullying. They also worked on a leather craft bottle carabiner holder for an upcoming campout event.

In addition to these adventures, Den 2 stepped back in history and visited Old Bethpage Village Restoration and took a tour of Theodore Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill residence. The Scouts also enjoyed participating in Port Washington Pack 77’s annual Raingutter Regatta, Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold Awards Dinner and went on an overnight trip to Newark’s Liberty Science Center. They are looking forward to the upcoming Clean Green Main Street event, the spring camping event and fulfilling the Arrow of Light Adventure requirements on the way to bridging towards Boy Scouts next year.

The Den is led by Erin Scott and Samantha Stam. If you’re interested in joining Port Washington Cub Scouts, visit the Facebook page PWPack77 or website at www.pwpack77.scoutlander .com for more information.Webelos052516D
