Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the town board recently announced the fourth annual “Caps Back” Contest, a competition that challenges students throughout the town to collect the most plastic bottle caps, which are usually not recyclable.
The Town of North Hempstead is proud to be the first municipality in the U.S. to partner with Estee Lauder’s Aveda Division on a recycling program for the plastic bottle caps. Using caps collected by students in North Hempstead, Aveda makes new caps to use on their products, preventing them from ending up littering beaches and oceans.
Schools are encouraged to collect caps and the school that collects the most wins. The winning school will be determined based on the total weight of caps collected. The contest ends June 13. For more information, call 311.
